Its so simple and popular that a lot of services are trying to integrate its services with it. The best I came across is zyb.com. Its a free online phone data backup service and they have recently launched GCal import. Import GCal to zyb calendar and then sync it with your phone. Very handy and practical. Both the services are great.

I agree, Google calendar is a great shared calendaring tool and one of the tools that we’ve been looking at as part of the I-See-T project exploring ICT for collaboration in the VCS.
